Discovery: Stephania Kaweesakii. Formally known as Stephania Sp. Nova.

For a long time, this rock looking bulb has been carrying a temporary name of Stephania Sp. Nova (Nova means new) and has been adopted all around the world. It has finally been given its own new name - Stephania Kaweesakii.

Stephania Kaweesakii has been illustrated & described by authors Thaya Jenjittikul and Saroj Ruchisansakun from Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand.

Stephania Kaweesakii (Menispermaceae), a new tuberous species from Thailand, is described and illustrated. It is morphologically similar to S. pierrei but can be distinguished by having thick-scaled (vs. smooth and papery) tuber bark, male flowers with 3 or 4 petals (vs. absence of petals).
